Tuesday Feb. 23 – Brian Sackett, Ph.D. is our Presenter

Brian Sackett, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist in private practice for the last twelve years in San Jose, CA. He specializes in working with clients dealing with trauma and abuse, spiritual emergence, anxiety and depression. Prior to becoming a therapist, Brian worked for 25 years in high tech in a variety of positions, as a director of sales, national accounts sales manager, product marketing manager, business development manager, and engineering program manager. His undergraduate degree is in mathematics, from Stanford University, and he has a master’s degree in counseling psychology, and Ph.D. in transpersonal psychology from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology.

His talk will cover a variety of spiritual experiences, including two with many of the elements of a near-death experience. The first occurred when as a three year old he fell out of a car going 60 mph. The second occurred after a unitive experience at the age of 21, at Dinkelspiel Auditorium in Stanford in which Baba Ram Dass introduced Swami Muktananda to America. Brian will touch on spiritual experiences in Brazil with the unconscious medium John of God, and here in the Bay Area with the nondualism teacher Adyashanti. Brian will also talk about what it has been like living with his wife’s 19 years of never-in-remission thyroid cancer and her passing in the summer of 2012.

One major theme is the attempt to live transcendentally while staying connected with one’s humanness. Another is how to deal with suffering by connecting with the inner resources that are available to all of us.

His life experiences have prompted 44 years of actively pursuing meditation and spirituality, and a career in clinical psychology in an attempt to understand and be able to articulate such experiences.

Brian is a great presenter, and this will be his second appearance at South Bay IANDS. Let’s give him a big welcome!
